Nowadays, younger generations in several countries have been experiencing great difficulty trying to spend time taking care of their elderly parents. This essay will explore several reasons behind this development, as well as possible solutions to curb it.

There are two possible explanations that can shed light on the inability of family members and acquaintances to adequately look after the elderly. First of all, as the living cost has been on the rise in both developed and developing regions, many working adults have to resort to either working longer hours, or to taking on many side jobs just to make ends meet. As a result, the pursuit of money has inevitably become the central part of their life, leaving them unable to spend time bonding with older members of the family. Another significant factor that contributes to this is rapid urbanization in various countries. A lot of young people leave their hometowns to the urban centers where most of the professional and education opportunities are concentrated. This unintentionally creates a physical gap between younger generations who primarily reside in the city, and their parents in the countryside. Since travelling from one place to another is often time-consuming, especially for working adults, most people often struggle to see their parents on a regular basis.

Looking at the bright side, the solutions for these problems are quite straightforward. To begin with, the government can enforce strict limits on working hours, as well as implement policies to reduce the cost of living. This is precisely the approach that the Swedish government has taken, and it’s not a coincidence that Sweden is considered one of the best places to retire. Governmental authorities can also encourage investment from companies and corporations into less urbanized areas of the country. This has the effect of creating more employment opportunities and boosting the local economy, thereby rendering relocation unnecessary. Bac Ninh is the prime example for this, as this Vietnamese province has effectively reduced the migration of young people to the city by allowing the construction of manufacturing sites, schools, hospitals, and various other facilities that create many jobs for the locals.

In short, the primary causes behind the fact that young people can’t spend enough time with the elderly people are long working hours, high living expenses and the widening geographical distance between different generations as the result of urbanization. However, the government can easily solve this by limiting the work hours and reducing the cost of basic necessities, as well as allow private businesses to invest in areas outside the cities.

Nowadays, younger generations in several countries have been experiencing great difficulty trying to spend time taking care of their elderly parents. This essay will explore several reasons behind this development, as well as possible solutions to curb (v: hạn chế) it.

There are two possible explanations that can shed light on the inability of family members and acquaintances to adequately look after the elderly. First of all, as the living cost (n: chi phí sống) has been on the rise in both developed and developing regions, many working adults have to resort to (v: buộc phải làm điều gì đó vì không còn lựa chọn khác) either working longer hours, or taking on many side jobs just to make ends meet. As a result, the pursuit of money has inevitably (adv: không thể tránh khỏi) become the central part of their life, leaving them unable to spend time bonding with (v: xây dựng quan hệ thân thiết với) older members of the family. Another significant factor that contributes to this is rapid urbanization (n: sự đô thị hóa) in various countries. A lot of young people leave their hometowns to the urban centers where most of the professional (adj: liên quan tới nghề nghiệp) and education opportunities are concentrated. This unintentionally (adv: vô tình) creates a physical gap between younger generations who primarily reside in the city, and their parents in the countryside. Since travelling from one place to another is often time-consuming (adj: tốn thời gian), especially for working adults, most people often struggle (v: cố gắng, gặp khó khăn) to see their parents on a regular basis.

Looking at the bright side, the solutions for these problems are quite straightforward (adj: dễ hiểu). To begin with, the government can enforce (v: cưỡng chế thi hành) strict limits on working hours, as well as implement (v: thực hiện một chính sách) policies to reduce the cost of living (n: chi phí sống). This is precisely the approach that the Swedish government has taken, and it’s not a coincidence that Sweden is considered one of the best places to retire. Governmental authorities can also encourage investment from companies and corporations into less urbanized (adj: được đô thị hóa) areas of the country. This has the effect of creating more employment opportunities and boosting the local economy (n: kinh tế), thereby rendering (v: khiến cho) relocation unnecessary. Bac Ninh is the prime example for this, as this Vietnamese province has effectively reduced the migration (n: sự di cư) of young people to the city by allowing the construction of manufacturing sites, schools, hospitals, and various other facilities (n: cơ sở vật chất) that create many jobs for the locals.

In short, the primary causes behind the fact that young people can’t spend enough time with the elderly people are long working hours, high living expenses (n: chi phí sống) and the widening geographical distance between different generations as the result of urbanization (n: sự đô thị hóa). However, the government can easily solve this by limiting the work hours and reducing the cost of basic necessities (n: những điều cần thiết), as well as allow private businesses to invest in areas outside the cities.
