The diagram shows how an LED (light emitting diode) flashlight works.
The diagram offers insight into the arrangement of the electronic components inside a LED flashlight, as well as the way that they interact with each other to produce light.
Overall, there are four key parts required to make a flashlight function, including a slide switch, a LED bulb, a power source, and lastly, a circuit connecting all of the above together.
As can be seen from the diagram, the inner components of the flashlight are enclosed within a protective case, the surface of which contains the above mentioned switch. Inside, the LED bulb is located at one end of the flashlight with only the flat surface being visible from the outside. It’s right next to the power source, which is composed by two vertically arranged batteries.
When the switch is slid down, it temporarily creates a small gap in the circuit of the flashlight, effectively disrupting the current of electricity and turning the flashlight off. In case it is pushed up, this gap closes and completes the circuit, which allows the current to flow throughout the device. This enables the electrical energy from the batteries to power up the LED bulb, and light is produced as the result.
