    2. Sample answer 1

I’d like to talk about a gift that holds great significance for me. It’s a wristwatch that I received from my parents for my 18th birthday. They gave it to me during a small family celebration, and it was such a thoughtful and meaningful present.

The wristwatch is quite elegant, with a classic design. It has a stainless steel band and a simple yet stylish face with Roman numerals. It’s not too flashy, but it has a timeless quality that makes it special. The watch also has a small engraving on the back with my initials and the date of my birthday, which adds a personal touch.

I use this watch daily, whether I’m going to school, hanging out with friends, or attending family events. It’s practical for keeping track of time, but it also serves as a constant reminder of my parents’ love and support.

This gift is important to me for several reasons. Firstly, it symbolizes the transition into adulthood and the responsibilities that come with it. Secondly, it was given to me by my parents, who put a lot of thought into choosing something that would be both useful and meaningful. Every time I look at the watch, I’m reminded of their encouragement and the special milestone in my life.

    3. Sample answer 2

I’m going to describe a gift that I received which, although not very expensive, has great sentimental value to me. The gift is a simple handmade scarf that my grandmother knitted for me.

This scarf was given to me on my birthday a few years ago. My grandmother made it herself, and I remember her spending hours working on it. She’s always been very skilled with knitting, and she decided to make something special for me to keep me warm during the colder months.

The scarf is made from a soft, warm yarn in a deep blue color. It’s not very long or fancy, but it has a cozy, knitted texture that I find really comforting. I use it quite often, especially during winter, when I’m heading out for school or just around the house. It’s become a bit of a staple in my winter wardrobe.

This scarf is important to me for several reasons. Firstly, it reminds me of my grandmother’s love and care, as she put so much time and effort into making it just for me. Secondly, it represents a personal connection to my family and the warmth of home, especially during the chilly winter months. Every time I wear it, I feel a sense of comfort and appreciation for the thoughtfulness behind the gift.

IELTS Speaking part 3 sample answers

Với phần thi IELTS Speaking part 3, SOL có đưa ra một số câu trả lời gợi ý cho các bạn để tham khảo về ý tưởng và từ vựng dưới đây nè:

    1. Why do we usually give gifts to children to praise their studies, but not to children for sports awards?

I think the main reason for this is that academic achievements are often highly valued in many cultures, including ours, as they are seen as a key to future success and stability. Gifts given for good grades or academic performance are a way to encourage children to focus on their studies and reinforce the importance of education. On the other hand, while sports achievements are also important, they might not always be as universally emphasized in terms of reward. However, this can vary depending on individual families and their values. In some cases, children who excel in sports do receive gifts or recognition, but it might not be as common as it is for academic accomplishments.

    • academic achievements /ˌækəˈdɛmɪk əˈʧiːvmənts/: thành tích học tập
    • highly valued /ˈhaɪli ˈvæljuːd/: được coi trọng
    • future success /ˈfjuːʧər səkˈsɛs/: thành công trong tương lai
    • reinforce the importance /ˌriːɪnˈfɔːs ði ɪmˈpɔːtəns/: củng cố tầm quan trọng
    • universally emphasized /ˌjuːnɪˈvɜːsəli ˈɛmfəsaɪzd/: được nhấn mạnh ở khắp mọi nơi
    • academic accomplishments /ˌækəˈdɛmɪk əˈkʌmplɪʃmənts/: thành tựu học tập

    2. In what situations do you think it is good or bad to give gifts to children?

From my perspective, giving gifts can be really positive when it’s used to celebrate milestones or show appreciation. For example, a small gift for a good report card or a special occasion like a birthday can be very motivating. However, giving gifts all the time or for every little thing might not be as effective. I’ve seen some friends who received gifts regularly, and it seemed to take away from the value of each gift. It’s also not ideal to use gifts as a way to solve problems or as a substitute for quality time. I think the key is to use gifts thoughtfully and not as the only form of encouragement or affection.

    • celebrate milestones /ˈsɛlɪbreɪt ˈmaɪlstəʊnz/: kỷ niệm các cột mốc
    • special occasion /ˈspɛʃl əˈkeɪʒn/: dịp đặc biệt
    • motivation /ˌməʊtɪˈveɪʃn/: động lực
    • take away from the value /teɪk əˈweɪ frəm ðə ˈvæljuː/: làm giảm giá trị
    • substitute for quality time /ˈsʌbstɪtjuːt fɔː ˈkwɒlɪti taɪm/: thay thế cho thời gian chất lượng
    • thoughtfully /ˈθɔːtfəli/: một cách chu đáo

    3. Do you think shopping is good for a country's economy?

Yes, I do think shopping helps boost a country’s economy because when people spend money, it stimulates business and creates jobs. I’ve noticed that when I buy something, it not only benefits the store but also the people who work there and the suppliers. However, I also think we need to be mindful of overconsumption and its impact on the environment. I try to make more deliberate choices in my shopping to ensure that my spending is contributing positively and not just adding to unnecessary waste.

    • boost a country’s economy /buːst ə ˈkʌntriz ɪˈkɒnəmi/: thúc đẩy kinh tế đất nước
    • stimulates business /ˈstɪmjʊleɪts ˈbɪznɪs/: kích thích hoạt động kinh doanh
    • creates jobs /kriˈeɪts ʤɒbz/: tạo việc làm
    • overconsumption /ˌəʊvəˌkənˈsʌmpʃən/: tiêu dùng quá mức
    • deliberate choices /dɪˈlɪbərɪt ʧɔɪsɪz/: lựa chọn cẩn thận

    4. Why do people like shopping more now than in the past?

In my opinion, people enjoy shopping more now because there are so many more options available, and shopping has become more convenient with online stores. I remember a few years ago, shopping meant going to different stores and physically browsing through items, but now you can find almost anything online and have it delivered right to your door. The rise of social media and advertisements also plays a big role; it’s hard to miss out on new trends and products with constant exposure. It’s become not just a necessity but also a form of entertainment for many.

    • convenient /kənˈviːniənt/: tiện lợi
    • online stores /ˈɒnlaɪn stɔːz/: cửa hàng trực tuyến
    • rise of social media /raɪz əv ˈsəʊʃəl ˈmiːdiə/: sự phát triển của mạng xã hội
    • constant exposure /ˈkɒnstənt ɪkˈspəʊʒə/: sự tiếp xúc liên tục
    • form of entertainment /fɔːm əv ˌɛntəˈteɪnmənt/: hình thức giải trí

    5. How should children spend their allowance money?

Well, I think it’s important for children to learn how to manage their allowance money wisely. From my experience, it’s a good idea for them to divide their money into different categories—like saving, spending, and maybe even donating to charity. This way, they can learn about budgeting and the value of money. I remember when I was younger, my parents encouraged me to save a portion of my allowance for something special I wanted. It helped me appreciate the value of saving and planning ahead.

    • manage their allowance wisely /ˈmænɪʤ ðɛər əˈlaʊəns ˈwaɪzli/: quản lý tiền tiêu vặt một cách khôn ngoan
    • different categories /ˈdɪfrənt ˈkætɪɡəriz/: các hạng mục khác nhau
    • budgeting /ˈbʌʤɪtɪŋ/: lập ngân sách
    • appreciate the value /əˈpriːʃɪeɪt ðə ˈvæljuː/: hiểu được giá trị

    6. What kinds of gifts do young people like to receive as rewards?

Young people, in my view, tend to appreciate gifts that match their personal interests. For instance, gadgets, trendy clothing, or gift cards to their favorite stores are often well-received. I think experiences, like tickets to a concert or a fun day out, can also be really exciting and memorable. In my own experience, I’ve found that personalized gifts, such as something related to a hobby or interest, tend to be more meaningful and appreciated.

    • personal interests /ˈpɜːsənl ˈɪntrɪsts/: sở thích cá nhân
    • trendy clothing /ˈtrɛndi ˈkləʊðɪŋ/: quần áo hợp thời trang
    • gift cards /ɡɪft kɑːdz/: thẻ quà tặng
    • personalized gifts /ˈpɜːsənəlaɪzd ɡɪfts/: quà tặng cá nhân hóa

    7. How should bosses reward employees?

From my perspective, bosses should reward employees in a way that feels genuine and acknowledges their hard work. Monetary rewards, like bonuses or raises, are always appreciated, but I also think non-monetary rewards can be really effective. For example, recognition in front of the team, additional time off, or opportunities for career development can be very motivating. I’ve noticed that a personal note or a simple thank you can also go a long way in making employees feel valued.

    • monetary rewards /ˈmʌnɪtri rɪˈwɔːdz/: phần thưởng tiền tệ
    • non-monetary rewards /nɒn-ˈmʌnɪtri rɪˈwɔːdz/: phần thưởng phi tiền tệ
    • recognition /ˌrɛkəɡˈnɪʃən/: sự công nhận
    • career development /kəˈrɪə dɪˈvɛləpmənt/: phát triển sự nghiệp
    • personal note /ˈpɜːsənl nəʊt/: lời nhắn cá nhân

    8. Should employees have their own goals?

Yes, I definitely think employees should have their own goals. Setting personal goals helps them stay motivated and feel more invested in their work. I’ve found that having clear objectives makes me more focused and driven. It’s also beneficial for aligning personal ambitions with the company’s goals. Of course, it’s important that these goals are realistic and achievable, and that employees have support from their managers to reach them.

    • stay motivated /steɪ ˈməʊtɪveɪtɪd/: duy trì động lực
    • clear objectives /klɪər əbˈʤɛktɪvz/: mục tiêu rõ ràng
    • personal ambitions /ˈpɜːsənl æmˈbɪʃənz/: tham vọng cá nhân
    • realistic and achievable /rɪəˈlɪstɪk ənd əˈʧiːvəbl/: thực tế và có thể đạt được
