Describe an interesting neighbor/ Describe a neighbor who has an interesting life
You should say:
A neighbor of mine who has a very interesting life is Ms. Lan. She’s a middle-aged woman who lives right next door to my family, and we’ve known each other for many years. Ms. Lan is a close friend of my parents, and I’ve known her since I was a child.
We often do things together, especially when it comes to community events or neighborhood gatherings. She’s a very outgoing person, so whenever there’s a festival or local activity, she’s usually involved and often invites me to join. Apart from that, she loves sharing stories about her travels and experiences from all around the world. Sometimes, we’ll sit together for a coffee, and she’ll tell me about her adventures, which I always find fascinating.
What makes her life so interesting is the fact that she has traveled to so many countries and experienced diverse cultures. She’s visited places like France, Japan, and even remote areas in South America. She’s not only explored different landscapes but also learned about the local customs, food, and traditions of each place. I find it really inspiring to hear about her travels and to see how open-minded she is.
Ms. Lan is also a very positive and energetic person who always seems to have something new to share. She often encourages me to explore and be curious about the world. Her stories and experiences make her a unique and fascinating person, and I feel lucky to have a neighbor who can share such an interesting perspective on life.
Từ vựng IELTS hữu ích:
I'm going to talk about a neighbor of mine named Mr. Nam, who has always been a fascinating person to me. Mr. Nam is in his early 60s, but he’s still very active and energetic. He lives just two houses down from us, so I’ve known him since I was a child.
I first got to know Mr. Nam better a few years ago when he invited me and a few other neighbors over for coffee. I remember feeling curious because he had so many interesting things in his house—souvenirs from all over the world, books on travel and history, and even some musical instruments. He started telling us stories about his life, and it turned out he’s a retired tour guide who spent years traveling to different countries.
Since then, I sometimes visit him on weekends, especially if I want to hear more of his stories or learn something new. He often shows me photos from his travels and shares his experiences, like how he guided groups through famous sites in Europe or went trekking in the Himalayas. Occasionally, he’ll teach me a few phrases in different languages that he picked up along the way.
The reason I find Mr. Nam so interesting is because of his adventurous life and open-minded personality. He has seen so much of the world and is always eager to share his knowledge. It’s rare to meet someone in my neighborhood with such a unique background, and I feel lucky to have him as a neighbor. His stories inspire me to travel and experience life more fully, just as he did.

I'm going to describe a neighbor I’ve noticed a bit but haven’t gotten to know very well. Her name is Mrs. Lan, and she lives a few doors down from my family. We aren’t close, as we’ve only spoken a few times in passing, but I’ve noticed some things about her that seem quite interesting.
I believe she might be an artist or a craftsperson of some kind because I often see her setting up materials outside or working on projects in her garden. Sometimes, I’ll walk by and notice colorful paintings or handmade decorations that she puts out to dry. Although I haven’t asked her directly, it’s clear she has a creative side.
We’ve only greeted each other briefly, so we don’t really do anything together. But from these small encounters, I’ve gathered that she’s a warm and friendly person. She’s always polite and smiles when we cross paths.
I’d say she’s interesting because of her unique hobbies and the way she brings a bit of color and personality to our quiet street. Even though I don’t know much about her, it’s nice to have someone around who seems creative and adds something different to the neighborhood.
Từ vựng IELTS hữu ích:
As far as I’m concerned, people’s familiarity with their neighbors can vary a lot depending on where they live. In urban areas, for example, people often lead busy lives and may not know their neighbors well. That said, in more rural or suburban areas, it’s quite common for neighbors to interact more frequently, whether it’s through community events or simply chatting over the fence. What I reckon is that familiarity with neighbors is becoming less common in modern cities due to people being more absorbed in their own routines. But I do think that a strong sense of community can still exist in some places, even in urban settings.
To my way of thinking, getting along with neighbors is definitely beneficial. For starters, it creates a sense of security, as neighbors are often the first ones to notice if something unusual happens around your home. What’s more, having a good relationship with neighbors can be very practical; for example, they can help you with small tasks like picking up mail or watering plants while you’re away. Another thing is that positive relationships with neighbors contribute to a friendlier and more supportive community. That said, of course, conflicts can arise, but overall, I believe good relations with neighbors are important for a harmonious living environment.
Children often build relationships with others in a community through shared activities and play. To start with, school is a major place where children meet and interact with others from their community. For example, they form friendships through group work, sports, or recess. Another way children build relationships is through extracurricular activities like sports teams, music classes, or community events, where they can meet kids from different backgrounds. What’s more, socializing in parks or local playgrounds allows them to bond with kids who live nearby. I’d say that in the digital age, online platforms also offer opportunities for children to connect, though face-to-face interaction is still crucial for developing social skills.
There are several ways people can improve relationships with neighbors. For starters, simply being friendly and greeting your neighbors can go a long way. To name one example, organizing small gatherings like a coffee morning or a neighborhood barbecue can help neighbors connect in a relaxed setting. Another thing is to offer help when needed; for instance, if you see a neighbor struggling with groceries or carrying something heavy, offering assistance can create a sense of goodwill. That said, it’s also important to respect others’ privacy and boundaries to avoid misunderstandings. The way I see it, building strong relationships with neighbors starts with small gestures of kindness and respect.
